Sun. May 13/07 - Race Report from Ziggy's ZM Columbus Crit on Toronto Island
Another picture perfect day for bike racing in Toronto. The sun was out in full force, the location was unique, a great little course on Hanlan's Point.
In the M1 race we had Dan, Hamish, and Jamie on the line. The rest of the team were at home with mom. The format was 75mins plus 5 laps. Jamie claimed to be tired from the day before but rode aggresive and jumped into a long break with Pavan's Brent Aquino. The two stayed out front until 1 lap to go. At that point Hamish took over and strung the group out for Dan. All was going as planned as Dan hit the last corner in the lead, but a sneaky Kevin Davis timed it right and took the win at the line with Dan in second. It was good effort and team work by all three.
In the Senior 1/2 race we had Eric Robertson and Mark Batty. These guys were fresh off a hard road race in NY State on Saturday. Eric rode like a champ and made the decisive 4 man break powered by the ever dangerous Darko Ficko. Eric went for the win coming out of the last corner in 2nd spot but ran out of space and finish a great 2nd!
Next up, the Niagara Classic Road Race ... A whole lot of climbing!
