DAY 7: LAURA BRISEBOIS

It is my pleasure to share my personal experiences with breast cancer prevention and the Betty Wallace Women’s Center.

I am very lucky to be one of the women who have not had to suffer from breast cancer as a result of early detection and ongoing prevention.

Initially, when I discovered that I had a lump in my breast, I attended a diagnostic imaging department on the main floor of the hospital. The environment was depressing, the mammogram was painful and I felt like a piece of meat.

I was thrilled when the Betty Wallace Women’s Center opened. A breath of fresh air, walking in for the first time was like going to a spa. The staff was kind, gentle and friendly. They helped me face my fears and anxieties in order to help me get through my tests. I felt like a member of the family.

The physicians and staff at the Betty Wallace Women’s Center have been monitoring me to determine what the best course of action is.

My sister has now encountered a problem and is benefiting from the Betty Wallace as well.

I would also like to mention Louise Koyanagi and her Look Good Feel Good Program. I am so pleased that there are people like Louise who can assist women who are going through chemotherapy with their self esteem.

I have learned many lessons through my experiences which I would like to share with you. Never miss an appointment. Not knowing is more frightening. The staff at the Betty Wallace will treat you like family. The setting is serene and will set you at ease. There is no waiting and even the magazines are up to date! You will not feel like you are in a clinical setting.

Finally, do not neglect your health. If you are not healthy, nothing else matters.
